“I feel like I've learned more at work than at university!”
Meet Morgan Räsänen, 23. Morgan grew up in Hudiksvall and is studying Civil Engineering in Uppsala. He’s currently working at Monitor for the fifth year in a row. “I’ve been given a very fun assignment this summer where I’ve explored how we can upgrade old programs with new technologies."
It was during the middle year of high school that Morgan first got a foot in the door at Monitor. He’s currently studying Civil Engineering in Uppsala – majoring in software development – and spending his fifth summer at Monitor in the Internal Systems department.
"It feels great to be able to travel home in the summer to spend time with my family and friends, and also work and earn money," he says.
In Internal Systems he works with the development and maintenance of software which is used internally within the company, a role that requires a lot of responsibility and initiative.
“It’s really good to get experience alongside my studies, and work in a more hands on way than we’re allowed to at university. I’ve been given a very fun assignment this summer where I get to explore how we can upgrade old programs with new technologies. We have a translation tool, for example, which I’ve looked at ways of developing. I learn a lot at work.”
“I noticed right away what a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere it is here.”
His studies and summer work suit each perfectly, offering theory combined with practical assignments. "I almost learn more at work than I do when studying. But the two go hand in hand of course. It’s great to be able to combine work and academic study."
Morgan Räsänen, 23, is working at Monitor for the fifth year in a row.
Morgan talks about how the pleasant atmosphere in the office helped him feel right at home.
"I noticed right away what a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere it is here. Everyone is really nice, and you can talk and joke with each other. I would highly recommend Monitor as a workplace. Working here has been very rewarding, and I’m much better now than I would have been if I hadn’t worked at Monitor during all these years."
He’ll be graduating in 2025, and plans to do his dissertation at Monitor. "Maybe I’ll do my dissertation on automation, which I’ve been working with a lot here. This would be really interesting, and hopefully benefit the department as well as the company."
In the future, Morgan dreams about one day working abroad. “My dream is to work in Japan, although Monitor doesn’t have an office there.”
Perhaps Malaysia would be an exciting challenge?
"My mother is from Thailand and we have relatives in Asia, so it would be nice to be a bit closer – so it would be easier to meet them."
